You know, i always enjoyed Kingdom Hearts 1's combat system. Seriously, as bad as underwater combat was, fighting there, and for that matter, anywhere else, was at least more bareable than the singing shit we had in exchange. Hopefully, when they get around to making Kingdom Hearts 3, they'll improve on the underwater fighting so that it's bareable. And that you don't grossly overpower enemies so that the only actual threats are a select few and far enemies like Nobodies and...the goddamn Hotrods.
